Wow! there is not too much more that I can say about my breakfast this morning. After an early morning appointment along Beaufort Street, my early morning buddy and I broke our fast at The Merchant.
I’ve always passed by this place wishing I was in need of a meal at that very moment to justify stepping inside the intriguing interior. This morning it was an amazing haven from the chilly conditions gripping Perth this week, so we ducked inside, claimed a booth seat, and readied our bellies.
Whoosh! depicts just about how fast I scoffed down my orangey pancakes, with pistachios, mascarpone and drowned with orange/sugar syrup ($19)
We quickly ordered drinks to warm us up I had a lovely little pot of Punjabi Chai ($5). The packet of Kraft honey was a little surprising, but nonetheless, my tea was delightfully spiced and plenty to last me throughout my meal.
For brekkie I picked the orange pancakes topped with pistachios, mascarpone and orange flavoured sugar syrup housed in a tiny vintage milk bottle (which I instantly poured in its entirety all over my plate!). This was a sugary heaven, the cheese was a great tangy foil to make it feel like I was not basically sucking on a piece of sugar cane.
The service was a little patchy, our drinks arrived swiftly, but then we were left alone for quite a while till we asked to place our orders for food, and ask for water. But I think we hit right as the morning rush hit (9.30am) so we shall forgive the staff this time :)
The Merchant certainly lived up to the hype, I’ll certainly be back to try some more of their treats!
The Good: Awesome interior, and superb pancakes
The Bad: Long waits on an empty tummy
The Money: Pretty pricey to be honest
