Sandrinos
Pizza Bella Roma being closed for Wednesday lunchtimes had us looking for a solution to our Italian cravings. We walked around the corner to find Sandrinos fairly full in comparison to the rest of the cafes along the strip. Thinking all those people must be onto a good thing, we went to investigate.
We shared a bowl of wedges ($6.50) which were great! The aioli was nicely tangy (purchased to add to the Pizza Bianca Sandwich) and went down a treat with these crispy slices of delight.
I had a Calzone ($18.50) filled with ricotta cheese, olives, Italian sausage, and mushrooms. The servings were very generous and in addition to the wedges, let me tell you there was not Mushroom in my tummy at the end of the meal. The pizza dough was beautifully textured (fresh, hot bread will always make me happy!) My only complaint was that everything was really salty, now don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of salt, but I was constantly seeking my glass of water (which was rarely filled by the waitstaff, with no bottle of water having been left on the table).

My vegetarian friend went for the Roast Pumpkin, Goats Cheese, Basil Pesto and Rocket Pizza ($18.50). The rocket topping was a bit awkward to eat, so she pulled it off, but from where I was sitting it looked pretty damn tasty!! The “small” pizza was far too large for her to finish alone, so a doggy bag was arranged.
My other friend chose a Pizza Bianca Sandwich - Steak Bianca ($16.50), with extra aioli on the side ($1.50). She added some of the rocket from the pizza, as veg was a bit scarce, and without the extra aioli the sandwich would have been a bit dry. The steak was decent and, of the generous serve of fresh crunchy chips some remained, as did a 1/4 of the sandwich.
I don’t think we really chose the right day to attempt to gorge on carbs as we hardly had empty enough stomachs! On leaving and paying for the bill, unfortunately the Maitre’D was entirely unfriendly to us. I do not quite get rude waitstaff - seriously if you don’t like service, there are plenty of other jobs out there where you do not have to interact with people.
But judging by the food, Sandrinos could shape up to steal away my allegiance to PBR.
The Good: Authentic Italian tasties!
The Bad: Nasty Maitre’D, Lack of water.
The Money: Reasonable value.
